Bishop Norman Williams has been well-known in the jazz scene in California for many years. Born and raised in Kansas City, he imbibed from the main spring of modern jazz music along with his mother's milk. You can hear in him those deep roots, the forties and fifties bebop sound, but with a layer of Coltrane, liquid and searching: he laboured for many years in the vineyard of the Church of John Coltrane in San Francisco.

In November 2005, the Bishop played a concert of classic jazz standards (and a couple of originals) in romantic Trinidad, California, tucked between the redwoods and the ocean in the wild north of the state. The stars were in alignment, the vibes were good and the crowd went wild.

Bishop's not the kind of guy to have a web site, but you can read more about him here (thanks, Bob Doran).
